Above: In 2012, the Soldiers Monument is only a few yards south of its 1913 position. David Black’s sculpture, “Flyover,” commemorating the arc of the Wright Brothers’ rst ight, has been added to the Main Street scenery between Fifth and Fourth streets. During the 1920s, a distinctive tower was added to the United Brethren Building, now known as the Centre City Building.
At right is Dave Hall Plaza, which honors former Dayton Mayor Paul Davis (Dave) Hall, who served as mayor from 1966 to 1970. He was the father of Tony Hall, who served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and later became the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture.
Today, Main Street still re ects the unique architectural heritage of Dayton by blending the design of her newest buildings with the best of her past.
