Franklin: Railroad bridge near Sixth and River streets
Left: Many bridges were washed away during the 1913 ood but not the Cincinnati Northern/Big Four Railroad Bridge at Sixth and River streets. Men worked to push debris away from the bridge on March 26, 1913. The sturdy bridge was not even damaged in the ood.
Franklin’s suspension bridge and this bridge were the only two bridges between Dayton and Hamilton to survive the ood.
Right: A bridge stands today several feet higher than the old one to allow more water to pass under it. This photo is taken from the parking lot of the Deardoff Senior Center at Sixth and River streets.
