and industry leaders, Mikey loves to
get into the backyard of BBQ folks
around the United States and the rest of the world. He wants to know what’s on your grill, how it came to be there, and what you’re going to do with it.
Now, we all know that it’s important to be plugged into your audi- ence. In business, that would be your customers. In competition, that would be the judges. And of course the groupies! For a pod- caster, it’s your listeners. And Mikey has devised a really ingen- ious way to be connected with his listeners. Every week, he posts announcements
about upcoming podcast episodes on his incredibly suc- cessful Instagram account. With each announcement is a reminder to ‘Always #manmeatbbq on all your BBQ posts.’ This means that Mikey and his team are always aware of what their fans are smoking. From those notifications, those with out- standing posts soon
get invited to guest on the show. In short, it’s a real BBQ show, for real people.
‘Keeping it real’, has become Mikey’s trademark and it’s earned him a lot of respect in the wider BBQ community. He now works closely with ManBQue and perhaps the biggest name in BBQ, Myron Mixon. Industry bodies have also found Mikey’s work compelling, leading to being invited to cover the National Barbecue and Grilling Asso- ciation’s 2019 Annual Conference and Excellence awards. Not just this, but he’s even flown to Hawaii to be a part of Certified Angus Beef’s annual con- ference, a trip which is still present in Mikey’s mind even three years later!
Mikey has spent years talking BBQ with anyone and everyone and has now channeled his knowledge into his own BBQ food brand, Fire & Smoke. He does vending, catering, and sells a great range of rubs that deliver incredible colours and flavour profiles. In short, Mikey not just talks the talk (literally!), but he also walks the walk.
