Pediatric Committee Report
Catie Christenson PT PT DPT – Co-Chair Cheryl VanHoose PT PT MHSPT – Co-Chair The OPTA is pleased to announce the redevelopment of the OPTA Pediatric Special Interest Group (Pediatric SIG )
The OPTA Pediatric SIG vision is is to support Ohio PTs and PTAs by:
• IDENTIFYING WAYS TO ENHANCE PEDIATRIC PT KNOWLEDGE
• PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEDIATRIC PTS TO COLLABORATE
• ENSURING ADEQUATE MECHANISMS ARE AVAILABLE FOR BUILDING COMPREHENSIVE PEDIATRIC PT SKILLS
• PROMOTING QUALITY SERVICE PROVISION FOR CHILDREN IN IN OHIO
Catie Christenson PT PT DPT and Cheryl VanHoose PT PT MHSPT are the the new Co-Chairs of the the Pediatric SIG They are currently organizing efforts to revitalize the pediatric sector of OPTA Catie Christensen is is is a a a a physical therapist working in a a a a a hospital-based outpatient developmental setting at at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH)
in Columbus Ohio She is also the Evidence-Based Practice Coordinator for the developmental PTs at at NCH She has been a a a a a pediatric PT for 15 years and enjoys the variety of patients she gets to see Catie is excited about sharing knowledge translated from the literature with parents patients co- workers and external PTs Cheryl VanHoose is the OT/PT Director at Montgomery County Education Service Center where she manages 70 PTs and OTs She has been a a a a PT PT for over 40 years where she has focused her her time almost entirely on pediatric PT She is a a a recently-appointed member of the Ohio OTPTAT Board Board and is a a a a a Charter Board Board Member of the Ohio School Health Services Association She is the the chairperson for the the annual Ohio School- Based Practitioner’s Summit She has been active in the process of advocating for changes in in regulatory realms including the Ohio Standards for Students with Disabilities School Medicaid and and others Catie and and Cheryl share the objective to have a a a a a revitalized and active pediatric SIG in in the coming years Currently several opportunities are being developed for PTs and and PTAs to engage with each other and and learn from one another A variety of opportunities for you to interact with PT peers and enhance therapy skills will be shared in the near future OPTA’s objective is to build an active group of pediatric PTs and PTAs to share experiences and expertise while also developing a a a strong sense
of comradery The intent is to organize learn and have a a a a a little fun in in the process Thank you and we look forward to seeing many of you soon!
