                COMMITTEE & SIG REPORTS
PTA Caucus Representative Report Sanaz Holcomb, PTA - PTA Caucus Representative
Greetings to all my physical therapy colleagues and physical therapy students in Ohio. It is my pleasure as your PTA Caucus Rep, to give you updates since the last ACCESS article. We have had a very busy and exciting spring leading into summer as the House of Delegates took place in Orlando, Florida. The Ohio Physical Therapy Association conducted several meetings prior to the House of Delegates to prepare with all the Ohio Delegates, including the PTA Caucus Representative, 42 PTA Caucus Representatives, six PTA Caucus Alternate Representatives, and six delegates gathered for the PTA Caucus Annual Conference.
The PTA Caucus Nominating Committee conducted candidate interviews and elections. Those elected to serve were: David Harris (TN) as Chief Delegate, Drew Wilcox (UT) as Alternate Delegate, Rachel Winthrop (MN) to the Nominating Committee. Jimmy Pacini (CA) was elected in a Special Election to fulfill the two-year term vacated by David Harris. The 2018 House motions were discussed with specific attention paid to RCs 53, 54, and 55. A poll held during these discussions showed 59% of reps directing the PTAC Delegates to oppose these motions. For anyone who is interested, please refer to the APTA website, to read the various RCs under the section, communities.
PTA Caucus Reps spent time discussing #PTA10K, a newly-launched membership initiative to reach 10,000 PTA members. Plans were developed
to take back to chapter leadership, specifically
for what could be done at the state level to significantly move the needle on PTA membership. Amy presented the #PTA10K initiative to APTA leaders, and the entire caucus briefly joined Amy during this time and added energy to the room
as they collaborated with component leaders on how to initiate plans in their own chapters and sections to increase PTA membership
and involvement. Representatives opted into joining one of four groups to talk about better partnership with APTA’s Education Leadership
Partnership, building a stronger PTA community through communication, plans for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the PTA in 2019, and fostering leadership growth within the PTA caucus.
2019 marks the PTA’s 50-year anniversary and the
PTA Caucus is planning a celebration during CSM and NEXT 2019! I am honored to serve on the committee for this celebration. We are looking forward to having the first PTA program recognized with members attending the program invited. For those of you who are attending CSM or NEXT in 2019, please look for information regarding this celebration. I encourage all educators, clinical instructors along with clinicians to continue in your efforts to promote the importance
of belonging to the APTA as we continue forward
with new goals of membership with new student incumbents. I encourage all of you to attend your district events to better understand the efforts put forth by the OPTA to help strengthen our chapter.
As the new programs start their year, please utilize “Benefits of Belonging” talks that are given throughout the chapter by various therapists. If anyone is interested in getting further information regarding the “Benefits of Belonging” talk, please reach out to me as I will
be excited to help. I thank you for your continued membership and involvement in this great chapter
of Ohio. #BetterTogether, #PT/PTATeam, #PTA10k
