THE RESULTS ARE IN!
2021 was the first year in which the Jurisprudence Assessment Module (JAM) was required of all Ohio licensed physical therapists. And the results are in - 6,275 license holders took the JAM with 97.9% of them passing with an average score of 93.0 out of 100.
A reminder for physical therapist assistants – you are now required to complete the JAM for your license renewing January 31, 2023. Learn more on the FSBPT website. The JAM counts as 2 CEUs for both PTs and PTAs towards your license renewal requirement.
FEWER AUDITS PERFORMED
This year, the PT Section of the OTPTAT Licensure Board approved a change that lowers the number of PTs and PTAs randomly selected for a CE audit from 20% of all license holders to 10%. While fewer license holders will be subject to an audit each year, your CEUs are still required to have an Ohio approval number. Our list of approved and denied courses is updated weekly and posted on the OPTA website.
CHANGES AND MEMBER INFORMATION
If you change your name, address, email or employer, you are required to update your information through your eLicense account. The OTPTAT Licensure Board sends correspondence to license holders through the information on your eLicense account, so be sure to keep it up to date.
We like to keep our member information up-to- date as well. If you have changes to your contact information, or recently received a certification, update your APTA membership account so we can update your OPTA membership account.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Why isn’t a course I took that is approved in another state accepted in Ohio for CEUs for license renewal?
A: The Ohio Practice Act does not allow for reciprocity by outside organizations or states. All courses taken to be used for license renewal must have an Ohio approval number.
Q: Why aren’t APTA courses automatically approved for CEUs in Ohio?
A: The Ohio Practice Act requires all courses to be used for license renewal to have an Ohio approval number. To receive an approval number, an application must be submitted. APTA (and other continuing education provider companies) do not always submit all their available courses for CE review in Ohio. Whether or not to submit a course for review in Ohio is at the discretion and decision of the sponsoring company, APTA included. The OPTA reviewers can only review those courses that are submitted for review.
