KENNETH WAYNE KIRBY, JR., PT, DPT, OCS OPTA DISTRICT: CENTRAL
DATE OF CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP: 2003
I am both honored and excited to be slated for the position of Director III for the Ohio Physical Therapy Association . It has been my distinct pleasure to serve the OPTA in the role of Delegate for the past three years . As Delegate, I have had the good fortune of helping our Ohio delegation have a more vocal presence at the House of Delegates . We have been successful in seeing motions passed that advocate for greater involvement of our association in providing for the health, wellness, and resilience of our members as well as the development of resources to assist members with the physical therapy management of patients/clients/ consumers with limited English proficiency. The past three years have been highly valuable and filled with learning . They have validated my deeply held belief in our association and the value it provides to both our members and prospective members .
My 14 years as a full-time practitioner of physical therapy would provide a unique perspective to our board . I experience firsthand the challenges and opportunities that clinicians and their patients face daily in practice. It is my hope to use this clinical background and expertise to represent Ohio physical therapy professionals and contribute to new initiatives to engage and develop our membership . I feel my experience and passion as a clinician will help guide our profession to success . I would be honored to serve our membership in this leadership role . Thank you for your consideration .

The House of Delegates (HOD) is the decision-making body of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) . Serving as an Ohio Delegate for two terms has provided me an opportunity to get to know clinicians from all over the state, serving as a representative or liaison to the HOD . I have heard the voices and need
for organizational support from the APTA . As such, I had a crucial role in bringing two motions to the House floor for discussion over the past two years. The time and work needed to represent physical therapists from Ohio and have our voices heard on national issues is the least I can be doing to pay back what I owe this great profession . As a candidate for Chief Delegate, collaboration, organization, and communication skills
are essential for success . My passion is to serve as an advocate for our physical therapy profession to secure and leading role within the healthcare system, transforming the way society views and meets movement- related needs. I have both the essential skills and passion for continuing to serve to benefit the membership, delegation, and physical therapy profession . My leadership roles in both the state and national professional association activities, combined with my clinical, research, and educational experience, provides me a contemporary perspective on the advancement of the profession across all domains . I will advocate for the essential role of physical therapists in the future of health care within domains of clinical practice, education, research, and legislative affairs . I ask for your vote as Chief Delegate .
