Happy New Year everyone, 2018 was a great year for West Central District, with multiple CEU events throughout the year and of course, PT Day of Service .
This year was the third year for West Central District to participate in National PT Day of Service . For the last few years for PT Day of Service, West Central District has hosted a Wheelchair Costume Clinic to create costumes for kids in wheelchairs for Halloween . Over the years the costumes have ranged from superheroes, Disney princesses, Mario Kart, and the Back to the Future DeLorean . This year’s featured costumes included Star Wars Tie Fighter Ships, race cars and The Mystery Machine .
For this day of outreach, clinicians, PT and PTA students from Clark State Community College, Sinclair Community College and the University of Dayton helped to make the event possible . The actual Costume Clinic takes place on PT Day of Service with the kids and their parents coming to get the costumes and learn how to be able to
assemble the costume to the wheelchair for multiple Halloween parties . While this is the part the kids and parents see, there is a lot of prep work that happens in the week prior to clinic .
The Saturday before PT Day of Service clinicians
and students spend the day measuring, cutting, painting and assembling costumes so that they are ready for the kids the following week . All volunteers work hard building on PT/PTA collaboration skills while developing a deeper understanding of social responsibility to serve those in our communities
who have a need . This event helps to relieve stress on families who have many other things to focus on while allowing for one night their child to be the star of the show! Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping to make this year a success!
If you have questions, would like to help this year, or would like tips to replicate this event in your district please feel free to contact Heather Stoner at the email below .

The West Central District had a great time coming together for the Wheelchair Clinic. They were able to decorate several wheelchairs and put smiles on several little kids’ faces! Thank you
to all West Central District members who volunteered their time and creative talent.
