And your Lord inspired the bees: “Make ˹your˺ homes in the mountains, the trees, and in

what people construct, and feed from ˹the flower of˺ any fruit ˹you please˺ and follow the
ways your Lord has made easy for you.” From their bellies comes forth liquid of varying

colours, in which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.

Saccharine substance deposited by the hive bee, Apis mellifera, family Apidae, in
the cell of the honeycomb.

Collection and The worker bees take nectar from the flowers and pass it through

preparation the oesophagus into the honey sac. Sucrose present in nectar on

mixing with the saliva which contain invertase is hydrolysed to

invert sugar. On arrival at the hive the bee deposited the honey

sac contents in a previously prepared cell.

Characters Honey is a clear syrupy liquid of a pale yellow or reddish-brown

colour. The odour and taste depend very largely on the flower

      used.

Constituents It consists mainly of invert sugar and water. It contains small

quantities of sucrose, dextrin, volatile oil, and pollen grains.

Uses • Treatment of stomach and intestine complaints.
