Constituents
▪ Pungent principal capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin. The pungency is
not destroyed by treatment with alkalis but is destroyed with
potassium dichromate or permanganate.
▪ Red carotenoids capsanthin and capsorubin.
▪ Liquid alkaloid.
▪ Ascorbic acid (0.1 to o.5%) and thiamine.
▪ Fixed oil and proteins.
Uses
o As a condiment.
o Internally in atonic dyspepsia and flatulence.
o Externally as counter irritant for relief of rheumatism and lumbago …etc.
o As a hair tonic in hair-tonic lotions.
