REGIMENT OF ARTILLERY-THROUGH THE REUNIONS
T
HE SEVENTH REUNION
“I do not have to tell you who won the war. you know, The Artillery did”.
- General Gorge S Patton
th
he Seventh Reunion was celebrated with much elan and gaiety from 9 to 11 January 1985. Since the
th
T event coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the raising of ‘A’ Field Brigade, it was termed The
Golden Jubilee Reunion. COAS General A S Vaidya, PVSM, MVC*, AVSM, ADC, and Lieutenant General
Bhupinder Singh, PVSM, GOC-in-C Central Command and Senior Colonel Commandant graced the
occasion. Lieutenant General Jitender Sud, PVSM was the Commandant School of Artillery and Brigadier SK
Mathur, MVC the Commandant Artillery Centre, Nasik Road.
Though the history of Indian Artillery pre-dates 1935, the significance of 15 January 1935 lies in the
th
fact that it was on this date, that A Field Brigade with the first Indian Officers was raised. The foremost
purpose of the celebrations were three fold; firstly to honour those who valiantly laid down their lives as
sentinels of the Nation, secondly, to assure once again the bereaved families that they were not alone in their
grief and hour of need; and thirdly to provide an opportunity for those retired and serving to meet and
exchange old memories.
