DOUDNA FINE ARTS CENTER AT EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
The Doudna Fine Arts Center project, built for Eastern Illinois University, included the renovation and expansion of a 329,000-square-foot fine arts building in Charleston, IL. The facility supports music, theater, and art programs. The construction consisted of precast concrete, a steel structural frame, stained brick masonry, a colored, reflective, clear glass exterior evoking the feeling of inhabiting a chandelier, and a copper clad roof. The project also features a new proscenium theater, a smaller studio theater, a lecture hall, art studios, theater retail shops, performance laboratories, and faculty offices as well as renovated music concert and recital halls. Site work consisted of outdoor performance courtyards, ceramic art display yards, sculpted gardens, and a terraced deck. The Doudna Fine Arts Center project now provides an artistic academic environment for students, faculty, and staff.
