GRADY GAMMAGE MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM IMPROVEMENTS AT ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
The Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium Improvements project, built for Arizona State University, included the addition of an 8,025-square-foot theater to the main auditorium building located in Tempe, AZ. The facility functions as a multipurpose performing arts center and cultural center. Construction consisted of a foundation of grade beams on caissons, a steel structural frame, and a PVC membrane roof. The exterior was constructed of brick veneer and metal wall panels, ground concrete floors with exposed aggregate sides, and new ‘Rosecrete’ exterior finishes. The project also features two five-stop machine room-less traction elevators, women’s restrooms with 92 stalls, sprinkler systems, and fire alarm systems. As the last publicly commissioned building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, CORE understood the need for great care to preserve the building’s heritage during the renovation, and due to this successful renovation work, the Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium continues to remain a significant architectural, historical, and cultural icon to Arizona State University.
