of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark features world class geoheritage and spectacular landforms shaped by tectonic activities, weathering and erosion;
v A member of the Global Geoparks Network;
v Visitor facilities like visitor centres, boat and land tours are available to explore the geopark.
About 40 per cent of the territory of Hong Kong has been designated as country parks and special areas.
A total of 24 country parks and 22 special areas dedicated
to conservation, education and recreation. There are also six marine parks and one marine
reserve covering 4,050 hectares of sea area.
In the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, visitors can explore
the fascinating story of our planet over millions of years, from the Devonian Period 400 million years ago, traversing the Jurassic and Cretaceour Periods when dinosaurs roamed the earth, to eras when the climate turned scorching hot and the Ice Age when global sea level was more than a hundred metre lower than it is today.
