New road tunnel
v The Central-Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link fully commissioned in February 2019;
v Easing traffic flow along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island;
v From Central to North Point: just a 5-minute drive via the 4.5 km highway (3.7km tunnel)
The tunnel's air purification system - the first in Hong Kong and the largest scale of the same application in the world– can effectively remove at least 80% of respirable suspended particulates and nitrogen dioxide in the tunnel exhaust.
Land-based cross-boundary transport
There are nine major land crossings – five road-based, four rail-based in Hong Kong. Cross-boundary passengers can take MTR Intercity Through Trains and high speed rail to the Mainland from control points at Hung Hom and the West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link. The new Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point, the 7th land- based control point on the Shenzhen- Hong Kong boundary, is expected to
handle 30,000 passenger trips and 17,850 vehicle trips per day.
