When writing an invitation letter, it can be in the form of an invitation card which is generally
considered an official (formal) invitation or it can also be in the form of a more relaxed letter
(informal).
Formal Invitation
Formal invitation letters are written for formal events such as weddings, graduation ceremonies,
opening a shop, or other formal events. Because it is formal, an official invitation letter is written
using formal language and a more polite word structure.
Writing a formal invitation letter must provide detailed information. The invitation must be able
to answer the questions: who (who invited), whom (who was invited), when (when the event took
place), where (where the event took place), what (the type of event).
Example of formal invitation
Dear Madam Flora,

event will be organized at Sun Bakery House and be held on 15th July 2021 at 1 p.m. A lunch has
arranged in between the event to make it more enjoyable.

and inform us the number of guests you wish to bring with you.

Informal Invitation
Compared to formal letters, informal invitations are generally shaped like personal letters. Formal
invitation letters can be used to invite family, friends, relatives, or people who have close
relationships.
Writing in informal invitations uses a more relaxed, friendly and warm language style. Usually,
informal invitation letters are written to friends or family to attend events such as eating together,
birthday parties, or family gatherings.
