  Amateur Radio (Ham Radio)
Vigyan Prasar has since long serviced technical support and information needs of students and amateurs engaged in communication using the Amateur Radio, commonly known as ham radio. This is based on the fact that ham radio systems are resilient and therefore, can be used sustainably even in adverse circumstances, especially when other modes of communication may not be functional. During the period under report, to promote the Amateur Radio (ham radio) as an alternative mode for community communication and to promote it as a do-it-yourself activity in the field radio technology, a wide range of activities like training, workshops and demonstrations, etc., were carried out in coordination with governmental agencies/society/radio clubs/ schools regularly. Some major highlights are given below:

In 1927, ham radio (Amateur Radio) was legalised by International Radiotelegraph Conference, which is now regulated by International Telecommunication Union, Geneva. To celebrate the foundation day of IARU, World Amateur Radio Day is celebrated every year on 18 April.
