  of different disaster management agencies was testedincludingtheparticipationoftheradio amateurs (hams) to establish an emergency radio communication network considering that mobile telephone network was down. Vigyan Prasar’s VHF Repeater Station VU2DLR was extensively utilised during the mega mock drill tonetworkallofficesoftheDistrictMagistrates of 11 districts. Twelve EOCs (Emergency Operation Centres) of NCT including a few inter-state EOCs were established by the radio amateurs (hams). Amateur radio operators successfully communicated various messages on behalf of the disaster management officials. An emergency amateur radio communication station was established by Vigyan Prasar at the office of District Magistrate East District.

Guinness World Record in the Largest Number of students building radio transmitter at IISF 2019 Kolkata
An event coordinated by Vigyan Prasar, the first of its kind, a Guinness World Record was created in Kolkata where the largest number (490) of school students from different schools
were successful in
assembling a toy
radio transmitter
in just 10 to 15
minutes. A Guinness
World Records
Judge tested all
the assembled
radio transmitters
one by one for
more than an hour
to check whether
transmissions took
place and finally declared that the record is established as his requisite of 250 functional units were exceeded by 240 units working. The record was set on 7 November 2019 and certificate was formally handed over to the Union Science & Technology Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
