  Science & Technology Communication through Radio
Radio remains an integral part of India’s rich cultural, social and economic landscape. Radio broadcasting is one
of the most popular and affordable means of mass communication, largely owing to its wide coverage, low set-up costs, terminal portability, and affordability. Adhering to constitutional mandate of nurturing and inculcating a scientific temper and promoting rational outlook among the common citizenry and India’s over reaching endeavour, Vigyan Prasar since 2018 has produced programmes in 19 languages and broadcast from more than 117 stations of AIR. Promoting science and technology through the radio has been one of the flagship programmes of Vigyan Prasar since 2008. Mega science serials are being produced and broadcast from All India Radio as part of MoU between Vigyan Prasar and Prasar Bharati.
Some of the initiatives under the report period, utilising the medium of radio are as follows:
Radio serial on the theme ‘Climate Change and Global Warming’
A 52-episodes serial in Hindi on the theme ‘Climate Change and Global Warming’ titled “Badalti Fizae” has been on air since March 2019. The serial consisting of standalone thematic episodes is being broadcast nationally in 19 Indian languages from 121 stations of All India Radio (14 FM and 107 Medium Wave Stations). Each episode is of 27-minute duration with a focus on a particular aspect relating to climate change.
