Why shouldn’t this recommendation be accepted?
Years of Experience and the Domain of Specialization:
VP was created to fulfill the constitutional mandate under Article 51 A(h) of the Indian Constitution --- scientific temper & spirit of enquiry.
Vigyan Prasar (VP) is the only organization in the country that is relentlessly working pan-India in the area of science & technology communication, popularization and its outreach (hands-on extension) for past 32 years (since 12th October 1989). Science Communication, Popularization & Extension is a highly sought-after domain in every S&T policy and national-level decision.
VP is the only government organizational interface between, society, scientists, media and policymakers.
Pan-India Outreach (Extension of S&T Communication & Popularization) of Activities of Vigyan Prasar:
During past 32 years of existence, VP has penetrated into almost all of the 700+ districts through its core activities related to Science Communication, Popularization, and Outreach (hands-on extension) in a holistic manner covering every stratum of the society. This has been achieved by regular & relentless efforts of Vigyan Prasar in building networks pan-India, and partnership with government & non-government organizations. Thus, VP is the only organization in the country with all-India reach at grass- root level for Science Communication, Popularization, and Outreach (hands-on extension). Thus, functions of VP do not overlap with any other autonomous body/division of DST or any other ministry of the Government of India.
