Description and Functionality
AFERS jointly by Dept of Psychology, Calcutta University and C-DAC (Kolkata) works as an Assistive Aid System capable of improving human Emotion Recognition for persons suffering from Autism and is able to identify one or more of the basic facial expressions namely happiness, fear, anger, sadness both in online as well as offline mode. The system assists psychologists in the treatment of persons with autism by keeping chronological records of the intensity of expressions for a particular session. After going through a learning phase, once again the subject would undergo another session and chronological records of the new session would be stored. These chronological records would help psychologists to analyse session wise progress of the affected person and ultimately contribute to the goal of certain amount of improvement of human emotion recognition from facial expression.
State-of-the-art
AFERS captures live video stream for online analysis and stores the video sequence for offline analysis. A unique feature of AFERS is quantifying each expression with a score based on the intensity or degree of expression exhibited by the person. The intensity of expression is represented graphically for one or more expression for each of the frames.
  Stage of Development
The prototype has been extensively field tested and is ready for commercialization.
