Visually Challenged persons
Description and Functionality
The TWSI developed based on Universal Design Concept are protruded designs and has different functionalities like attention pattern, guiding pattern, colour contrast, detectable and luminance for navigation of visually challenged and people with low vision in different built environments.
State-of-the-art
The existing tiles for navigation are either ceramic, cast iron or steel based. The developed TWSI is made of synthetic rubber, polylactic acid (PLA) and thermo plastic poly urethane (TPU) materials which are break free, corrosion free and non-slippery. The tactile can be even pasted without modifying the existing structures/built environment and can be changed according to the environment
        Stage of Development
The tactile tiles have been field tested in different built environments and are ready for commercialization.
