Description and Functionality
Vardaan is an independent stair climbing wheel chair (manual) for up/down climbing for permanent active wheelchair users. The stairclimbing wheel chair is designed in such a way that the displacement of centre of gravity of the human body along with the wheelchair shifts in a cycloidal motion on steps. Many designs have been tried and tested in order to achieve minimum magnitude of cycloidal motion with minimized jerk. After iteration of many wheels, the design of stairclimbing wheel has been chosen on the basis of minimum displacement from the center and also moderates the amount of effort required for lifting.
State-of-the-art
The finalized deign of the star climbing wheel can successfully climb a distance of 185 mm (max) and the maximum depth of 360 mm- 230 mm.
