“You are not a lollipop! You are a strange little boy!’
“I’m raspberry flavored!”
“What an imagination!” said his mother shaking her head in dismay.
Jeremiah laughed again. He was always teasing his mother with his
imagination games.
He grabbed his clothes and threw them on, then he went to the kitchen
and sat down at the table. There was a bowl in front of him, with some
dry cereal in it. Puffed wheat He tipped some milk into the bowl and the
cereal floated. He parted the floating puffed wheat with his spoon and
made a miniature lake.
He imagined being there, on the lake, while several puffed wheats
competed in the Annual Milklake Swimming Competition. They were
standing along the edge of the lake, flexing their muscles. “Ready!”
shouted the judge. The starter gun fired and six competitors dived in.
They were stroke for stroke at first, but gradually one pulled ahead.
Hundreds of puffed wheat spectators, piled up all round the sides, were
shouting and cheering as the finish line came closer.
Stroke by stroke the champion pulled away from the group. Now it
was a race for second. Puff puff puff went the swimmers.
Suddenly, out of the sky, a huge, hand appeared, and down came a hail
of chocolate bits. They dropped like meteorites, and destroyed the flat
surface of the lake, chopping it into a white froth, and many spectators
