The superlative adjectives
We use the superlative form to compare one person or one
thing to the rest of group in which it belongs.
Short adjectives:
We form the superlative by adding (the + adj + est) to the
adjective.
e.g. short → the shortest
Ayman is the shortest boy in our class.
Spelling rules:
1- If the adjectives end in (-e), we form their superlatives
by adding (-st) to the adjective.
e.g. large → largest
The River Nile is the largest river in the world.
2- If the adjectives end in (consonant + y), cancel (-y)
and add (-iest)
e.g. heavy → heaviest
The elephant is the heaviest animal in the world.
