Christian Zimelka attends to the online training platform, which is currently in high demand. The components of the current curriculum were updated and used.
The online training is available to everyone interested in pigs, or those who already have pigs and want to improve their knowledge, as well as those who want to upskill their staff, and government officials who want to increase their knowledge.
The Nat ED Online Platform was identified to host the online material and serve as a safe and secure platform to work from, as well as the gateway to register and make payments.
The course comprises 11 modules, which are offered as separate courses. This will become a complete course. Both options must be available.
Each module consists of the following:
- An explainer video
- Supporting PDF (printable) notes
- A 30-minute live-lecturer Q&A session
- An online assessment
Certificate of module completion.
A timeline is set for the learner to refer to the notes, which consist of about 6 to 7 pages per module.
Students will be required to achieve 70% to pass. The test can be repeated. After three attempts, a certificate will be issued confirming that the course had been completed.
Currently, five different tutors are involved and 80 pages of course notes have been drafted.
The first module was to be rolled out during that week and would be promoted on SAPPO’s media platforms. While the courses are running, all the remaining problems will be sorted out. The next module will be launched within 4 weeks.
Farms can facilitate the course for their staff in their own time and at their chosen venue.
Management and Administration:
Since 2017, members of the Business Development team have increased from 3 to 9 Business Development Managers (BDMs). The budgeted funds for business development were reallocated to accommodate more BDMs, with the focus on creating more sustainable small to medium scale farmers.
