Government encourages blended finance and Monyetla will make use of it.
Current Project - The Ramakedi project, which is implemented in partnership with Hugo Meyer (Belhuit), received a grant fund of R2,8 million. SAPPO assists with accounting support and financial planning.
Pipeline Projects - The Sincobele project applied for R35 million from the IDC.
An application was submitted to Exxaro for a R75 million project.
A KZN pig project was in the planning stages.
Monyetla’s Structure - Monyetla is 100% owned by SAPPO. The board consists of 3 members – Nico van Aardt (management), James Jenkinson, Isabel Bröcker and Johann Kotzé. The Monyetla directors are Isabel Bröcker, James Jenkinson and Johann Kotzé.
Monyetla operates independently from SAPPO. Regular meetings are held and all projects are submitted to the credit committee for consideration and a final decision.
Projects to the value of R182 million were evaluated, but not all were approved.
Bayensfield Training Academy (BTA)
The BTA had lost its AgriSETA accreditation in 2017, but it was recovered through SAPPO’s intervention in 2019. SAPPO’s Head of Business Development, Kgadi Senyatsi, serves on the AgriSETA Board.
Huge improvements have been made on the BTA piggery since 2017. The management of the piggery and training facility were split. The BTA piggery was placed under the authority of the JBE, while SAPPO retained responsibility for the training at the BTA.
The accommodation infrastructure and office facilities were upgraded. Re-branding took place to add value to the institution and to take it to a higher level. A new training curriculum was developed by SAPPO and accredited by AgriSeta.
The BTA is an on-farm training experience. The pig industry is the only industry where you can go for on-farm training experience.
The SAPPO office, as well as the staff accommodation, is situated on the farm. All the business development managers conduct training at the BTA. The training facility is an asset to the industry and creates a lot of goodwill amongst small scale farmers.
