General
The meeting noted that 20% of total expenses was incurred on business development.
Enterprise development included farm mentorships, veterinary services, skills development and training (Baynesfield Training Academy). The aim for 2021 is to reach more people with the same budget.
Previously, SAPPO had funded certain individual farming development projects but after revision of those projects, contracts with those farmers were honoured but were not extended. SAPPO’s strategy was to act as a service provider, assisting with business plans, feasibility studies, financial mentorships, veterinary services, EIA studies and project management.
The data gathered through these services enables the industry to manage risk, relevant, in-time communication, self-learning and training proved to be an asset.

SAPPO funded the management agreement of Monyetla. Monyetla manages funding for developing farmers by assisting them with strategic planning, development of business plans, and applications for funding. The fund is well structured and managed.
Since the inception of Monyetla, 8 projects have been evaluated. Three business plans and one funding application were completed.
