Yes, if you merely look into the past few years of history
you will see plenty of negativity, much of it perhaps
negatively affecting your life, for there is still plenty of
negative energy left in and around us and it might be easy
to think that we are in a tailspin. But if you increase the
scale of your outlook, step back, see the bigger picture and
include all human history as your reference, you will
clearly see that the positive has greatly outweighed the
negative, and our incredible advances in advancing human
civility is irrefutable, undeniable proof of that. This is the
true reason for optimism.

So now that we are looking at things based on a much
broader and more realistic scale, it is easy to see that we
have been coming along just fine, thank-you-very-much,
and if we look at all of human history and not just our
lifetimes we are definitely moving in the right direction.
Armed with this knowledge, we can now easily relax,
exercise patience, experience a reduction of frustration and
realize that it's just not all going to happen at once and was
never supposed to — and that if we make any progress at
all and more importantly, participate in it, we can live full
lives and leave this world with a peaceful, enlightened soul
as well as leaving the world in a better way than we found
it. It's a win-win-win.
