School districts look to increase social
services and remove School Resource Officers
On Thursday, June 18, 2020, the Board of Milwaukee Public
Schools voted to end its contract with the Milwauke e Pol ice
Department to better serve our students. Thi s move com es after a
nation-wide movement to increase services in school s suc h as
counselors, educators and mental health spe cialists.
'The Milwaukee Police Department agrees with the many voi ces
from our community who believe tha t the fundi ng shoul d be
reinvested into our public school sys tem to suppor t soc ial
services.
MPD has enjoyed working closely with bot h the stude nt s and
staff at MPS, and will continue to suppor t MPS in the future.
