The LVNWSB has contracted five urban water services providers to provide water and sewerage services to residents under an agreed framework specified in the Service Provision Agreement, which ensures there is adequate and quality supply of water, affordable tariffs, and regular maintenance and improvement of water and sewerage infrastructure.
(a).
WATER: LVNWSB and WSPs will improve and extend water supply services in Informal Settlements to reduce non-revenue water. This includes steps to eliminate illegal and unauthorized connections and to reduce leakages which contribute to pressure losses that affect water quality through contamination. Other activities include the introduction of meter chambers, upgrading of pipes, facilitation of improved water kiosks, and a review of current procedures and charge rates for households and plots connections.
SANITATION: LVNWSB and the WSPs will promote and increase the number of sanitation facilities in the informal settlements. This includes promoting community managed pay-ablution blocks, construction of simple systems for waste discharge, supporting improved pit latrine emptying services, and facilitating community connections to sewerage networks.
HygIENE: Inadequate drainage in informal settlements is a public health challenge. The two agencies will support and facilitate community and NGO efforts to engage with other relevant authorities like the County Governments to construct open drains, improve solid waste management, and provision of central collection points to ensure that drains are not blocked.
