ABOUT CASE MANAGEMENT

          Lifetime support
The employment of a Case Manager in the early stages post-injury
will establish whether the newly injured person is going to need
ongoing support in the future and possibly for life. Some people
are better at managing their financial and physical needs than
others. This will impact significantly on the value of the
compensation claim as the Case Management service will have to
             be paid for.

          Choosing a Case Manager

We recommend you choose from the firms listed in this Guide.
You and your solicitor should interview two or three people to ensure
you both feel comfortable about their approach and their ability to
work with you both. You should always ask

          • for a copy of the prospective Case Manager’s CV

          • about their previous experience with spinal cord injured clients

          • whether they have undertaken any training on spinal cord injury
and whether they have attended an SIA Case Managers’ course to
             keep up to date

          • how they will keep in touch with you

          • their level of professional indemnity insurance

          • about their membership of a professional association.

SIA provides regular training for Case Managers.
