Dear Mr. Paltrow:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. It compares the costs and coverage of your current
Aetna Medicare Premier Advantage PPO plan to those of two Medigap policies – Plan G and
Plan N. Medigap policies do not include prescription drug coverage, and if you decide to switch
to a Medigap policy, you will also need to enroll in a Part D stand-alone plan.
As you probably know, if you decide to switch you will need to do so by the end of Medicare’s
open enrollment period on December 7, and your new coverage will go into effect on January
1, 2022.
If you decide to get a Medigap policy and a Part D stand-alone plan, first choose which Medigap
plan you want (Plan G, Plan N, etc.). Then call two or three Medigap insurers for current quotes
and choose the company that has the lowest premiums (premiums and phone numbers are
shown in Appendix B1). Specify that you want your coverage to start on January 1.
To enroll in a stand-alone drug plan, call the plan’s number and tell the representative you want
to enroll effective January 1. You do not need to dis-enroll from your current Advantage plan –
when Medicare is notified that you have enrolled in a stand-alone drug plan effective January 1,
it will dis-enroll you from your current plan at the end of December (you might verify this with
the person you speak with). The stand-alone drug plan with the lowest costs for your Rx drugs
is the SilverScript SmartRx Prescription Drug Plan, and its enrollment phone number is (833)
526-2445.
Most of the costs shown in the evaluation are estimates for the 2022 plan year. Medicare has
not yet announced the 2022 Part B premium amounts or the Part B deductible, and so for these
the 2021 costs are shown.
Your physicians’ network affiliations
As you indicated in your questionnaire, two of your physicians do not accept Medicare. Your
other three physicians do accept Medicare, although it’s unclear whether Drs. Goldstein and
Kline charge Medicare-approved rates, as shown in Appendix A.
