after December 31, 2019. But people who are 65 or older can continue to be covered by Plan F
and can continue to buy Plan F policies or change insurance companies.
The information in the appendices indicates that you may be able to save a substantial sum by
changing your insurance companies. Appendix C1 is the New York State Department of
Financial Services’ premium comparisons for companies that sell Plan F. I’ve circled three
companies whose premiums (if accurate) will save you a considerable amount. These premiums
were last revised on November 1, and they should be accurate or at least close to it.
Appendix C2 lists the premium comparisons for Plan F from CSG Actuarial, a consulting firm for
insurance agents. In this list the companies are ranked by their premiums. Some of these
premiums may not include commissions and therefore may be lower than you can get. Because
I’m not an insurance agent, I don’t know which ones these are.
Appendix C3 lists the phone numbers of the insurers that sell Medigap policies in the state of
New York.
Chris, please let me know if you have questions.
Sincerely,
David Armes, CFP®
