Dear Neill:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. You might start by checking the information on the client
data sheet on page 5 of the evaluation to make sure it is correct.
In most cases, the costs shown in your evaluation are estimates for the full 2021 plan year, even
though you will be enrolled for only the last seven months of the year. The exception is your
prescription drug costs, which are estimated for the last seven months of this year.
After you begin receiving your Social Security payments in June, your Part B premiums will be
deducted from your monthly Social Security checks. This year your Part B premium will be
$148.50 a month. .
Because you are starting your Social Security benefits in the same month that you are starting
your Medicare coverage, it’s possible that it will take Social Security two or three months to set
up the monthly billing (and so your first payment might be for two or three months).
Choosing your supplemental coverage
Now that you’ve enrolled in Part B effective June 1, the next step is to choose your
supplemental insurance, including your Part D (prescription drug) coverage. We suggest that
enroll in your supplemental coverage no later than the first week of May so that you will
receive your supplemental enrollment cards in the mail before June 1. Here are the two types
of supplemental coverage you can choose from:
1) A Medigap policy combined with a stand-alone drug plan. If you decide to get a
Medigap policy, you will need to do the following things:
a) Decide which Medigap plan you want (there are eight different plans, shown
on pages 6-7 of the evaluation). Your evaluation compares Medigap Plan G
and Medigap Plan N, both of which are comprehensive plans that offer solid
medical coverage.
