Twitter. On Instagram, there is the option to use more (up to 30) as this platform concentrates more on the photo.
Don’t be abusive in response to negative posts. If someone has posted a nasty comment or a bad review of your book, simply acknowledge them politely or ignore it completely. Nothing creates infamy in writers’ circles like lashing out at criticism.
What do people want?
There are several reasons why people follow social media accounts. Taking these reasons into consideration when creating your posts can help you achieve maximum impact with your updates. Some of the main reasons people follow social media accounts are:
• Discounts and product promotions. Have you thought about offering a discount on your book or ebook that only your fans could use? You can offer a discount on our webshop to drive people there to buy your book or you could create a shop yourself on your website.
• Free things. Consider doing a giveaway of books. You can make it into a competition or open the giveaway to those only willing to do a review in exchange. (It’s hard to police the latter however as once the book has left your hands, you have limited control so do bear that in mind.)
• Entertainment. You should be warm, fun and friendly – the best author social media accounts often amuse and entertain, as well as reminding people about past and upcoming books.
• Related News. Links to new, relevant stories – blog posts on top tips for writers and advisory pieces on how to maximise your book sales – will educate your followers and boost your fans.
