                                                    The Basics
What is social networking?
With the rise in online technology has come an increasing use of social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to reach a huge and diverse audience instantly. Nowadays it’s common for authors to use social media sites to raise awareness of their book or ebook by posting links to buy copies, sharing media coverage, promoting special offers, interacting with readers... and much more.
Using social media costs nothing financially but can occupy a lot of time. All social media sites are just that – social. This is an investment to try and build and interact with a loyal, enthusiastic following. When used well, these platforms can help you expand your reach and boost engagement, a key tool if you are wanting to increase knowledge of your author brand.
The three social media platforms we would encourage authors to try are Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Glossary
First, some definitions to get started. We’ll be using many of the words given in this glossary in this handbook so these basic definitions should help!
• @Username – the name that you choose for your accounts. Everyone will be able to see this and it is best to try and match usernames across accounts for a cohesive brand.
