Prime Minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion visits Albert in Princeton
in 1951. He would later offer Albert the position of President of Israel.
the prime minister had most of the “real” power,
while the president’s post was mainly for show.
The thinking was that Albert’s fame, as well as
his accomplishments, would be good publicity
for Israel in the years to come. Albert was also
promised that he would still be able to continue
his work in physics.
The main problem with the offer, however,
was that he would have to give up his life in
Princeton and move to Israel, where he would
have to become an Israeli citizen. While Albert
