allowed as much time as he

wanted to work on his theories.
                                When Albert was first

                               offered the position at the
                                University of Berlin, he

wanted some time to think it
over. One of the reasons he

                                  hesitated was because he
                           disliked the German education

system, which he felt was too inflexible
compared to that of other European nations.

He promised Planck that he would make a final
           decision in a few days.

               MAX PLANCK

Max Planck (1858–1947) was a German
physicist. His greatest contribution to the
field concerned quantum theory. This dealt
with the behavior of light and matter at the
atomic and subatomic levels. It earned
him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918.
