NIGHTMARES
by James Gonzales
I close my eyes and try to drift to sleep Thinking o’my lov’r, wake up to her I might But t’night the sandman wants to see me weep He wants to see me scream and give a fright
I see it all, the pain, torture, blood and dread I jolt up, and I look around the room
Get out of bed, and to the kitch’n I tread
I try to breathe, but the fear still does loom
I pour a glass of water and drink up
Trying not to think of what just happened
I think to myself as I look at the cup
Perhaps the next night, a good dream he’ll lend
Did it mean something, I may never know But s’long my lov’r is safe, onward I’ll go

AN ODE TO THE EYES THAT SEE
ALL AND SAY NOTHING
by Molly R. Brandt
To the eyes that see all and say nothing Appraising each of your counterparts Cerulean like a bright flowing spring What a simple glance can do to a heart!
Limitless like the stars you wish to fly
Skin kissed by Apollo’s fair blessing
Soaring and reeling through the endless sky Seen through those eyes that do no confessing.
Soft smile wakes the weary observer
Calloused hands worried from each other’s touch Writing notes and thoughts with brilliant fervor Such quiet words can only say so much.
Are my musings with you all for nought, In your lovely eyes a cold afterthought?
