SECOND CHOICE
by Katie Wakeland
Lay me down gently, don’t throw me away
I wanted your love, but I’ll do what you say
Forget me, once you found a suitable one
That replaces me, erases me, and leaves me out of the sun
Don’t worry about me, I know you never did
But sugar coat it once in a while, after all you’re just a kid
Throw me away, I’ll still pull myself back
You can hate me, break me, and I won’t attack
I know I’m screwed up, I’ve heard it before
But that won’t make me come back and beg you for more
I cry for your help, and you soundproof my heart
I was dead before born, I was messed up from the start
People don’t care unless you’re one of them
I’ve pried, longed to be let in
They shut the door hard and left me in the dust To fix all my problems before entering their trust
I need someone to laugh with once in a while
But I was just a second choice, my emotions kept on file
So screw you for leaving, but I’ll still beg to have you back
Second choices can only move backwards, and first turns to last
