simply walk into a nook in your home and meet 1,000+ new little best friends. All the while they are usefully eating kitchen scraps while making vermicompost.
Vermicompost is worm manure or castings. It can be used in your garden beds, lawns, and even on houseplants (lightly) as fertilizer and soil conditioner. Better yet, the manufacturers are easy to manage. These little composters can be left alone for up to two weeks at time, though generally, weekly or twice weekly feeding is recommended.
It is quite easy to build a worm farm—take it from me! I chose to purchase a ve-level worm bin system and worms online. Purchase Red Composting Worms/ Red Wrigglers as they are eating machines and well regarded for making vermicompost. I bought 250 worms three years ago; they have been making fertilizer through thick and thin ever since.
Our vermicomposting friends thrive in similar temperatures as we do, 55 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
