A Message to Readers:
Frequently on social media, I see negative comments regarding the expansion and development of Castle Rock, Larkspur and surrounding communities. Unfortunately for those nay-sayers, change is both inevitable and predictable given the increase in the population of Douglas County. There are opportunities to participate in the planning process and give your input to government of cials. The Castle Rock Town Government and Larkspur Town Hall are always looking for volunteers to serve on commissions, advisory committees and councils to participate in the community and economic development process. Anyone who has the time and talent might want to consider becoming an active volunteer to positively impact these changes within our community. My goal in this monthly column is to inform our readers about current and planned changes going on around the Town of Castle Rock, Parker, Colorado Springs and Larkspur without making judgement or editorial comments. ~ Wade
Castle Rock –
The View:
There is a new, large-scale high rise building project in the works for Castle Rock. Once approved by the City Planners, The View will be a mixed-use facility housing retail, and multi-family residential. There will be 218 residential units. These levels of residential will sit on top of a concrete podium that will contain retail space, o ce space, and various other amenities with roughly 430 covered parking spaces. A portion of the parking spaces will be dedicated to public use and o cials are currently negotiating exact numbers of public parking spaces to be designated to the town for public use. There is a plan to also include an outdoor green space for residential amenities split between two terraces. The terraces will contain a swimming pool with a view of the mountain range, social gathering outdoor spaces, outdoor cooking grills, and a 24-hour dog run. Downtown Castle Rock will be walkable from all points of the building and have easy access for residents and business tenants. The View will be located on the 2.01 acres at 610 Jerry Street which is bordered by 6th Street to the south, Jerry Street to the west, an auto repair shop to the north, and a retail shopping center to the East. The proposed structure will be 6 stories tall, with the front facing I-25 west. Once completed, it will be one of the prominent structures of the downtown area. Construction may begin in early-to-mid 2021.
Expansion of Plum Creek Parkway at Miller’s Landing:
Yet another large-scale development is planned for Castle Rock. Miller’s Landing will be a mixed-use development located on the north side of Plum Creek Parkway west of I-25. A roadway improvement plan has
