Lora’s June article continued the backgrounds of the namesakes of today’s Castle Rock streets. Uncle Charles Burgess, Henry and Mary Briscoe Enderud, Charles Prescott, John Cantril, Wallace Holcomb and J.B. Memmen are each key players in Castle Rock’s rich history. Her research into these street namesakes led to the discovery of men and women who worked hard, experienced extreme heartache, but earned the respect of fellow community members who chose to honor them by naming streets after them. These street names are part of our everyday lives, but few know their signi cance. We hope this bit of research provided some reason for you to either remember something of the namesake or a desire to go to the Castle Rock Library where Julia Waters and Joan Gandy can help you to learn even more!
