The Castle Rock Journal reported in its October 12, 1892 issue that the  rst Douglas County Fair was October 6 and 7, and was a complete success!
The headline of the October 19, 1904 edition of the Castle Rock Journal was “The Fair a Great Success.” “The fair is over, the crowd has gone and left with nothing but the kindest of words for the Douglas County Fair.
In fact the entertainment was more than what was promised and they had a genuine good time from the time
it opened till it closed.” The Douglas County Fair Association reported: “On Friday evening last a meeting was held at the high school auditorium for the purpose of perfecting arrangements for a permanent fair association. The hall was well  lled with representative men from all parts of the county.
Honorable E. S. Ammons was chosen chairman and Preston Day secretary of the meeting. After some discussion by the chair, Mr. W. T. Lambert and others it was unanimously agreed to organize a stock company and make the Douglas County Fair an annual feature. A committee of three were appointed
by the chair to select a committee of nine to perfect and incorporate the organization. By Saturday,  fteen men were chosen for the Fair Association: W.T Lambert, E.M. Ammons, R.J. Dobell A.F. Stott, Ed Hu man, Preston Day, A.H. Eggleston, S.S. Case, Howard Williams, E.A. Strange, Chris Manhart, John Campbell, W.W. Jones, John Pollack and Frank Van Wormer.
Just as soon as possible the committee will get to work on a permanent organization and early
next season will have permanent buildings and sheds on the ground for accommodations of all of the exhibits so it will not be necessary to have the exhibits scattered all over town as was the case this year. The association will own the ground and have it fenced with a high board fence and everything will
