Six years ago, John was the insurance consultant to the Waldo Canyon Wildfire recovery team. He witnessed first-hand the loss of many people's photos, heirlooms and research materials which were not insured nor backed up. Among the many lessons of this catastrophe, John advocates more rigorous steps to preserve the family treasures to help you minimize the loss of these materials. John will discuss both the importance and steps to better protect yourself form this potential loss as well as helping you transfer these items to the next generation. Centuries of Censuses: What Census Instructions Can Teach Us Presented by Sylvia Tracy-Doolos
Sylvia Tracy-Doolos is a Professional Genealogist, Consultant and Lecturer. She is an active member in the local genealogical community and serves as an officer for various organizations. She has a B.A. in History and minored in English focusing on linguistics, so she could further study how language and immigration affected America’s records. Join us on Monday mornings, when the library is open, to share Genealogy research roadblocks and triumphs, pick up a few trick and tips, and hear some great family stories from your fellow genealogists. Registration required at www.crcgs.org.
Instructions to enumerators differed every ten years and can tell us a lot about what was
going on in the country. Understanding the details hidden in the census can help us take
advantage of the information gathered, and help us understand the context of our ancestors
times.
