Clinical Pastoral Education
A Step Forward for the Future
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) strives to help spiritual care professionals provide more effective ministry to patients. It can also help spiritual care professionals gain personal insight into themselves as ministers, which can be life-changing.
BSWH provided a total of 6,400 educational hours
and 20,800 hours of direct supervised ministry for CPE students in FY2018.
A Bellweather Program
Carlos Bell, director of Pastoral Education, was recognized by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) for his leadership as president of the national organization over the past two years. ACPE is the country’s leading provider of quality CPE for spiritual care professionals of any faith in any clinical setting. The BSWH Department of Pastoral Education is one of the largest CPE providers
in the world.
During FY2018, 64 residents and interns from diverse cultural backgrounds participated in CPE

Temple Hillcrest College Station Fort Worth BUMC
In FY2018, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple completed a resident training class, an extended unit and a summer intensive unit. Along with these training efforts, the facility completed a successful pilot program blending traditional face-to-face learning and distance learning through Skype.
