to innovate, they are planning another CPE unit overseen by Mark Grace, chief mission and ministry officer (CMMO), and a local CPE educator.
Thanks to a grant, Pastoral Education also launched the new Cultural Immersion Program in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The program matches CPE interns with
a host family who is different culturally or religiously and belongs to a minority faith community. The Cultural Immersion Program is an innovative educational opportunity focused on experiential learning. During the internship, participants develop greater empathy with patients from diverse backgrounds, improving the depth and quality of pastoral care at BSWH and wherever students go to serve in the future.
Continuing Education: Beyond CPE
In January 2018, 70 OMM staff gathered at BSWH medical centers in Temple, Waxahachie, Fort Worth and Dallas for a half-day teleconference titled Compassion Fatigue Prevention and Resilience.
OMM staff are also working with the Office of Clinical Care and Ethics to improve medical staff comfort and skill in having earlier conversations with patients and families about their hopes, fears
