Celebrating 70 Years of Giving People Purpose®

As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we reflect back on the legacy laid by our founders and the wonderful com-

munity that has allowed BARC to grow into what it has become today.

The foundation of BARC was laid in 1949 when two parent groups, with little more than courageous spirits and

determination, joined together to improve the lives of their children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabili-
ties (I/DD). These parents, through the direction of Freda Morrison, worked endlessly to get legislation passed
that would provide quality services for their children and the I/DD community as a whole. For the last seven
decades, we have drawn on renewed strength from our founders and have tirelessly fought to help influence Pub-

lic Policy, Laws and Legislation to create a better and brighter future for our Clients, their Families and the entire
I/DD community.

There have been a lot of changes over the last seventy years, but we have managed to not only survive, but

thrive, because of determined advocacy to help shape legislation and by creating new and innovative opportuni-
ties to improve the lives of our Clients. We believe that every person should have the opportunity to achieve the
goals that they set forth for their lives and we are proud to be able to help support these deserving individuals on

a daily basis.

Nobody knows what the next 70 years will bring, but we welcome the future with open arms because we know

that by staying true to our core values of advocacy and commitment for individuals with I/DD and their families,
as well as the support from our generous community, we will continue to flourish.

Thank you for being a part of our journey thus far. We hope that you will join us for another 70 years of Giving
