I started working at BARC on June 18, 1984 in the Packaging
and Assembly Department taking apart telephones. I’ve
worked a lot of different jobs over the years and I now work in
the Vocational Training Center three days a week and also at
the IKEA Distribution Center two days a week doing bubble
wrap.
I’ve seen a lot of changes physically at BARC and I’ve also seen
a lot of people come and go. When I first came to BARC, there
wasn’t much here. BARC was pretty much an empty field with
stacks and stacks of pallets with recycled parts and pieces. I’ve
also seen a lot of new businesses and programs open, close
and change over the years that I’ve been here.
I’ve stayed at BARC because I like it and because it gives me
something to look forward to everyday. I like the type of work I
get to do and I’m also able to do it at my own pace. I really love
working with the people here. Everyone is so special. My job is
meaningful and it allows me to pay my bills and go on trips. My
favorite trip with BARC was to Paris, France. I loved Paris be-
cause it was a fun and exciting cultural experience. It was an
opportunity I never would have had without BARC.
I’m really thankful that I have a place to go to and I hope that
BARC continues to grow and remains a place where Clients can
go for opportunities to improve and empower their lives.
Thank you for all of your support throughout the years!
